A Little Book of Chant for Advent & Christmas
A collection which comprises chant used in workshops with pieces used by Opus Anglicanum in their annual Mediaeval Carol concerts over the past twenty years.
The purpose is to present pieces which may be used by Choral Societies, Choirs, and Choruses alongside carols and anthems for Advent and Christmas carol services, and in concerts.
The range is from simple and joyful short responds and antiphons, through straightforward hymns and sequences, to some great Gregorian chants for the Mass. Amongst more demanding pieces are the tremendous 'Aspiciens a longe', and "Verbum caro factum est' with its exciting interpolated processional 'prose', both from the Salisbury tradition, and 'Te laudant angeli', again with a festive interpolated 'prose', from Worcester. The complete Salisbury Christmas Day procession is included, as is the delightful 13th century miniature liturgical drama 'Officium pastorum', the Ceremony of the Shepherds, from Rouen Cathedral.
